Masterchem originally started out as Aquapet in 1978, a company producing mainly aquarium products including various fish medicaments. This was started in the basement garage of our home.
In 1980 an alliance with Masterpet was formed which led to a variety of products being produced. The first registered product: Masterpet 3 in 1 Flea Shampoo, (17th August 1981) was the first using Permethrin as the active ingredient, in New Zealand, and to the best of our knowledge in the world.
The name was changed to Masterchem in the mid 1980’s to be more representative of the expanding range of pet products which were evolving and being formulated and produced by Masterchem.
These products included flea shampoo, shampoo’s, flea powder, powder, trigger sprays, vitamin and calcium tablets amongst others.
These products are marketed by Masterpet Corp, mainly under the VITAPET brand.
Other products include ANT BAN a non flammable water based aerosol, (a high performance insect spray), introduced in 1985 and still selling today. It was recently used to help combat fruit fly infestation.
Also, various specialty pest control products, mainly derived from permethrin, such as Aircraft disinsection. and products to combat flea, flies, wasps and other pests, for pest control companies. These are under our brand PERMEX.
Masterchem has the ability to formulate, manufacture and produce a wide variety of products without having major diversification problems. In 2015 we decided to set up a plastic container moulding business, Dice Packaging Ltd. Operating out of the Masterchem site has proven to be beneficial to both companies and of course increases NZ content of products.
